Today, Friday the 2nd September the students that went to the writers festival along with the year 11 infotech class linked up withat h a writer from New York named Christopher Herz.
I thought it was the best thing we’ve done for Info all year! Just the fact that what he was telling us was so interesting and how amazing his story was that he quit his job and went out on the streets to sell his book even though he wasn’t sure if it would be successful or not! He gave us the option of adding him on facebook which I intend to do.
He told us all about how he gets ideas for both his characters and plot and what his 2 books that he has already written are about.
I found it interseting that he uses a typewriter to write his books rather than use computers. I was fascinated that he bases his characters on real people that he sees during his daily life. It was a great experience and I think everybody enjoyed it!
There was not a single thing that I disliked about! I found everything he said interesting and listened to all the little bits of advice he gave. He gave us just about everything we needed to know about what it takes to be a writer and how he feels abotu writing etc.
Being an English and Literature student myself, I sometimes find it hard to think of things to write about and get writer’s block. So when Christopher was talking about writer’s block and the way to get rid of it is to basically just keep writing and not stop.
If I got the opportunity to talk to him again I would take it without thinking twice because I got so much enjoyment out of it and I’m sure I could think of some questions to ask him!
